Help with a strange connection issue.

[link to this post]

Hi, just wondered if anyone could shed any light on a problem I have got since going to MaxDSL.

I continually suffer from disconnects after 16:30 and in itself that is not a problem but if you look at my router log it sometimes at least once every 2 days connects to the exchange at 1152 DS and 288 Up, when this happens I can not connect to the internet I have to turn my router of for 30mins then if I am lucky it will connect again around 3500-3950ish and I can connect to the internet.

I have had 3 visits by BT engineers who have seen this stale type of connection but say they don't understand why, One of the engineers said he found a cross connection with my pairs of wires but the problem continued, the next engineer got a card changed in my exchange but the problem continued the third engineer said he did not think this was possible connected his USB modem and said nothing is wrong.

My router stats are,

Sorry for the long post but as you can see from my log when it connects at 1152 my attenuation jumps from 41.5db to 56.5db, it's like I am connecting via a different set of cables, all Zen want to do is arrange another BT engineer but I think this will be a waste of time. Does anybody have any clue to what is happening here or is this the first people have heard of a fault like this.

Thanks Dave.

certainly an odd one. The 1152 / 288 is a 1M fixed speed profile and it is as if your circuit is been set to different profiles - two conflicting entries for the same circuit, that kind of thing. Needs BT to escalate it as I can't see the 288 arising from a wiring fault its too much of a coincidence that its the fixed speed rate.

How do I get BT to escalate it I am now on my fourth BT visit and all I get is the smiley face person who says he will go away and try something and nothing gets sorted, even Zen say they will not put me back to my old 2Mb connection untill every avenue is exhausted, well I could be going in circles for years at this rate.

By the way thanks for the reply would love to know if anyone as heard of this problem before or am I the only one.

Why do it always happen to me.

ask Zen to escalate it to a higher level in BT and not just send out a CSE to check what he gets at your end. If the CSE gets different results to you it may point to your kit, but if he sees the same then its elsewhere. PM me if its not sorted in a week or so.
