will my line re-sync?

[link to this post]

Hello. after much trouble with slow speeds a BT engineer visited & said that an improvment would be found if I removed all my extensions. I am on ADSL max & am getting less than a meg.
he advised that because I'm a long way from the exchange the max I can get is about 31/2 meg.
I can now gradually see an improvement, I'm now upto nearly one and a half meg.
My question is, if I leave my router on for 10 days, will it re-sync like the first initial 10 day period to a higher speed?

Have you removed the extension wiring, as advised ?

It's not so much about the max speed that your router achieves - it's about your line profile, which will be based upon the lowest speed that your router has maintained in the last 3 days. Noise picked up by cabling can vary throughout the day, and is worst from about 7PM until dawn the next morning (at this time of year).

I havn't removed the wiring yet, I've just unplugged everything, I inbtend to do that if I see an improvement. I reckon I'm already getting a very small improvement, but again, will I get anoither "10 day bedding in period" If I leave the router on?

You don't need to leave it on. It will resync at higher speeds depending on the noise on the line. Have a look here for all the facts from BTw.

Unplugging things will make virtually no difference. It is the wiring causing the problems, especially the ring wires, and the only way to correct it is to disconnect the wires.

Disconnecting the bellwire makes quite a bit of difference on my line, I went from 3.5meg to nearly 6meg by disconnecting the bellwire from all extensions my line is also a little less susceptible to drops of sync. Worth giving it a try as it is easy to reconnect if there is no change.
