Poor sync / profile problems

Just had a call from a mate with low speeds on his Max enabled line.

I asked him to do the usual tests and got these results

Sync 2016 / 488 kbps
Profile 286 kbps
Throughput 228 kbps

The BT checker says he should get up to 4.5mbps

A bit of research reveals he thinks there could be an old phone in his folk's bedroom that is hardwired into the back of 1 of the phone points. If this is the case, then that is running unfiltered which is obviously a problem.

I'm going round for a look in the next few days and just wondered if we get rid of the unfiltered phone, would the sync speed increase right away? I know the profile will take a few days but it would be nice to see if we were making any progress short term.

the sync speed changes in real time with each resync.

If its going to make a difference it will change the sync speed straight away , at least after a reboot.
