[link to this post]

Heres a tricky one
My Modem/router stopped working. I can connect with my speedtouch 330 but the netgear hangs saying "Aquiring network address".
All was fine Wed evening then thursday morning this problem.
i cant even get into the setup pages or use the setup disk.
I have:-
Reinstalled Win XP pro SP2
Spent 1 1/2 hrs with Netgear Tech sup.
Tried ISP, Pipex Homecall.
exchanged the modem router for a new one.
tried both Nvidia and marvel lan ports

It wont resopnd to a Ping
all the correct lights are on
if i right click and choose repair it says "looking for ip address"

You could try doing a "hard reset" (usually with a pin hole or button on the back) - you'll need to refer to the manual on this - I'm not too conversant with this router. If you're successful, you'll have to set it up from scratch.

Have you tried a different ethernet cable (between router and PC)?

It's the old paper-clip in the reset hole for 20 seconds... The router should auto-configure to the line, just requiring a login name and password to be added.

It might also be worth trying to re-flash the firmware.

Is the router still in warranty?

Don't forget that the IP address of the setup page may well be different from the one which you set manually.

If he's not getting an IP address for the PC then that's academic. Also he said he tried a different router. Still don't know whether he's used a different ethernet cable though - always the first thing I look at in this situation as it's the most likely to go wrong.
