Interleaving

[link to this post]

OK, here's the story.

I experienced a drop in Signal/Noise ratio which caused my connection to become unstable about two months ago. After complaining to my ISP (Demon) they contacted BT on my behalf and asked them to intervene.

BT's solution (somewhat logically) was to enable Interleaving on my line. In the interim, I had managed to solve the problem myself anyway by using the DMT tool to tweak the SNR throttle.

Since interleaving has been enabled, my adsl connection has been dire. I called Demon to attempt to have it removed, spoke to a very nice gentleman from somewhere in Asia who said that following a check on my line, he could find no evidence that Interleaving was enabled. This is despite my Router and DMT saying that in fact, it is.

I have tried all the easy stuff like shutting the router down for a while etc, all to no avail.

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Any solutions would be most gratefully received!

Matt

Migrate to Newnet. They are so much better in every way.

You can order a change of interleaving status as part of the migration process (or at any other time for that matter). You could select either "on" or "auto". The extra cost of a change in interleaving status is

The connection being dire may stem from the issue that led to interleaving being applied, rather than because it is interleaved. What are the symptoms ?

Hi !

I have a related question for anyone that may be able to help.

I've just signed up to dsl max from a fixed 512k service. For the first 6 days I had a stable sync at 2240kbps, despite being on a long line with about 63.5(maybe more)dB attenuation (on a livebox, or 60dB on a Netgear), and about 6dB noise margin. Then I made a mod to my internal wiring, and att came down to 63dB and sync went up to 2818.

A couple of days later I tried another mod - it didn't work (BTW, don't try shielding your internal wiring - it causes problems!) and I got lots of sync failures. Unfortunately I left it like this for about half an hour. When I resolved it I syncd again at about 2600, but my throughput has dropped to about 900kbps and later, interleaving got turned on.

Now my question! I expect my throughput to come back up as my profile increases, but I haven't seen it written anywhere whether Interleaving set to Auto will ever go back to Fast mode, automatically, once it is activated. Can this happen?

I would prefer to sync at say 2meg, in favour of having interleave off. Is it possible to control the sync speed?

Many thanks.
