You are getting good speeds then, 7Mb?

Haven't got very good cable here but not bad IP Profile 6500.

Catch you tomorrow, off to bed.

One of the reason that ENTA brought in their form of traffic control at their busiest times was because gamers and VOIPers were complaining about lousy pings and packet loss at those times. The various centrals were getting overloaded and going into the black, dropping packets left right and centre. However, with their form of traffic control it simply automatically steps speeds from the maximum of 7200 down in 512Kbps chunks to a minimum of 2Mbps as a central gets into the red, i.e. before packet loss starts happening, on a rolling time frame. As a central recovers capacity they then automatically step the speed back up on a rolling time frame.

This means that the centrals never go black, i.e. packet loss, and everyone gets a decent speed and latency even at the worst times, irrespective of which protocol they are using. However, those Virgin figures look really bad in general, even that 100ms,, suggesting that Virgin may be running at near peak capacity most of the time. The very worst I now get with ENTA at the very busiest times is an extra 10ms on my normal latency of 30ms or so with interleaving on.

I think you may be right there JCYM, the best we ever get is about 33ms, worse about 235ms.
I can live with up to 100ms as it still gives a speed around 1200-1700kb, OK for forums, etc. but a bit useless for YouTube, which really needs 2500+.
I get 3200 in the morning and 2500 most of the day, just drops off after tea.
1665kb at the moment.
There was talk somewhere of 20Mb system coming up later this year on Virgin, assume this would be ADSL2, but how long before they roll out that system to all the small exchanges. What sort of improvements would this bring?
