SNR etc...

[link to this post]

Hi all would appriciate some info on a problem...

UPSTREAM

relative capacity occupation: 34%
noise margin upstream: 26.0 db
output power downstream: 20.0 dbm
attenuation upstream: 26.0 db

DOWNSTREAM

relative capacity occupation: 18%
noise margin downstream: 28.5 db
output power upstream: 12.0 dbm
attenuation downstream: 44.0 db

I'm currently on 1 Mbs with PIPEX, (dont know for how long with the extreme throttling)

What would the maximum speeds that the above outputs achive..??

Thanks in advance..

M

A line rate of 7-8Mbits

That's very optimistic! Possible, but very optimistic. I had similar stats on 2mb previous to max and the highest sync I managed was about 7.4mb.

I'd say about 6.5mb would be a more accurate estimate from experience of my line and others with similar attenuation.

UPDATE:

Have spoken to Pipex, who have now offered "upto" 8Mbs Down 448Kbs Up...

Thanks for the help with this, needed clarification on it before shooting my mouth off.

Be aware that changing to Max with Pipex will tie you in to a fresh 12-month contract, at a time when it's rumoured that the company is about to change hands.
