Phone interfers with DSL

[link to this post]

Can anyone offer some suggestions.

Everytime I use my phone, my snr drops significantly causing a loss of sync. I have tried the obvious and used 3 seperate filters (all of which I know are ok, 2 are brand new), a filtered faceplate, different phone, connected to test socket, daisy chained filters etc, all to no avail.

BT can't find a fault on the line (even though I am waiting for the engineer who visited the exchange to report findings). There is no extension wiring (house only has master socket).

Anyone with any possible suggestions on what might be causing this?

Thanks

It would seem so. There are no extension points, just the incoming cable to the master socket, so I would have to assume so.

How would I tell?

If you only have your BT master socket & no extensions/wiring coming from it the problem is not on your side.

It sounds like some kind of line fault, but thats about the limit of my knowledge on this subject. Does it happen every time you use the phone & does it happen at any time when not using the phone?

You *may* have a line fault that the 'normal' line test is not picking up, an HR (high resistance) dis fault. Since this fault is only apparent when used in conjunction with your broadband, then you will need a broadband skilled engineer to come and fault the line. IE You will have to report this via your ISP.

Hard to say. At the moment yes, but previously it had been happening ocassionally.

Then unfortunatley, as Zarjaz, said to deal with this you will need to go through your ISP.

Which ISP, i.e. good customer service?

It might also be useful to see your line stats. Someone complaining about this problem last week was right on the limit for line attenuation and was on a line speed that his line obviously could't properly support, because he had a SNR of zero.

It may sound obvious but did you try replacing your "phone" as well, as it might not be a BT line fault if you had a "duff" phone to terminate your broadband cct?
