Re: Phone interfers with DSL

Quick line stats.

In reply to:

Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 448 / 2.368
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]: 117,00 / 441,00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]: 11,5 / 17,5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]: 31,5 / 59,5
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]: 16,0 / 11,5

I know my line is at the extremities of the limits. But it can sustain at times a sync as high as 3000.

The real issue is why the telephone is having such a large influence at times. I say at times becasue at the moment it only drops the snr by about 0.5-1db, whereas yesterday it was more like 4-6db (and nothing at my end has changed).

Fault logged with ISP now, so we'll see what happens next. Makes me wish I could have kept me fixed speed when I migrated.

Vigalent

We have had the same problem as you ever since we changed ISP and went on to Max six months ago. We logged 2 faults with BT through our ISP and also 2 voice faults with BT, but because the problem is intermittent it is very difficult to fix.

We have a similar down attenuation as you, 58.0. Things seemed to settle down after I logged the second voice fault and we were getting speeds of 2 or 2.5Mb. However this last two weeks we have never got more than 1.5Mb and the phone problem is back along with other resyncs. Our ISP says they have logged a fault with BT 2 days ago and I am still waiting to be contacted by BT.

I have been thinking of going onto fixed speed. What fixed speed were you on before? We were originally on 1 but then got put onto Orange's LLU on 2Mb. I am worried that with our attenuation BT will say the max we can get is 1Mb.

Does anyone know if the fact that we got 2Mb on LLU means we can get a fixed 2Mb from BT Wholesale?

Did you this problem resolved? Reason I ask is I have exactly the same issue :-(. Only suggestion from BT is to move from Max back to fixed 1mb

Provide some line stats, details of internal equipment etc and the history behind your problems as your problem may be different.

Modem is DG834G v3 connected direct to master BT socket. Phone is in same filter as modem

After a couple of visits from BT engineer (including digging up the road to replace a cable "with conditions" on it which did not solve problem, I know from his box of tricks that I am just under 4km from the exchange

Line stats are
Connection Speed 2336kbps Down 448kbps Up
Line Attenuation 54db 15.5db
Noise Margin 12db 18db

Interleaving is ON and BT raised my SNR margin to 9db in attempt to fix fault

Issue is that using landline phone causes disconnection... this seems to happen in one of two ways:
SNR Drop.... when I pick up the landline phone you can see the margin drop to below zero then loses sync
Immediate Drop... when I pick up the landline phone the connection speed (and all other readings) go to zero immediately

I have tried using test BT socket, different filters, phones, cables between socket and modem, and even tried using the homehub that normally gathers dust... all with same result.

So... I was hoping the original poster had a solution. I think BT are about to recommend I move back to 1mb fixed line

Thought I'd post an update to my earlier post in this thread.

We were put onto 2Mb fixed speed last week after the same problems as everyone else on here. Our attenuation was about 58.

We still had problems with disconnections, but at least didn't get the drop in sync and subsequent speed drop we had on Max. We then got a Speedtouch 585v6 and we haven't had any ADSL disconnections for a whole week.

Thank you for the update. Perhaps my slightly lower attenuation may mean BT will put me on a 2mb fixed? I can but ask.

Yes I did. I got a BT engineer out to check the wiring. During his tests he found a poorly terminated cable (BT's side of the wiring in the house) and a very loose cable termination in the street cabinet.

In his words 'it just fell off in my hands, I'm supprised your telephone line work at all, let alone broadband'

Since then, no problems at all, and I can achieve a higher sync than ever before.
