long line shinanigins - PLEASE HELP

[link to this post]

Hi anybody, please help!
I live a fair way from the exchange, so when i signed up for broadband with madasafish last august i was absolutely delighted to get a service.
i was getting between a quarter to half a meg (on broadband max).
however in january the service went down (i had five and a half months of a continuous connection beforehand)
i've had the service back twice but it only lasted for about a week on each occasion.
i've had several visits from BT, but all i seem to get is to be told i'm a long way from the exchange. when i explain that i had a continous connection for nearly 6 months and stress that the house hasn't moved further away from the exchange! all i seem to get is a shrugging of shoulders.
am i right in thinking that if i really was too far from the exchange that the connection would be highly sporadic at best (not a continous one for more than 5 months) ??
any suggestions on where to go from here ?
please somebody, be a lifesaver!
many thanks
mark

Various things could have caused your marginal connection to slip to impossible.

Could be as simple as someone else getting broadband on a line which runs alongside yours. The interference could be enough to knock out your broadband.

your ISP should ask for a BT engineer visit to check out your end of things and to see if a better pair or other "tweak" can restore the service. If you were on a MaxDSL "up to 8M" service it should have slowed down to 160k before calling it a day.
