SNR and Attenuation

So I've posted one note about my sky broadband / internet access / noise on the phone line issues. I had one reply! thank you sire for the filter advice, but I started to delve, AND YES !! hallelujah I read the sticky notes, where I went to the broadband stats page, ran my scripts, and hey presto.. somethings ODD I think !! but want clarication

SO I have a NETGEAR384GT wireless router with SKY...
I've got the mid option which I pay FIVE pound for! and supposed download of EIGHT meg.
I run the tests from kits for the sky and got the following

Mode: G.DMT
Channel: Interleave
Trellis: ON
Line Status: No Defect
Training Status: Showtime
Down Up
SNR (dB): 8.1 7.0
Attn(dB): 27.0 19.5
Pwr(dBm): 19.8 12.5
Max(Kbps): 3520 672
Rate (Kbps): 2976 576

NOW according to this.. my SNR is low and my attn is I believe okay.
DO I just approach sky, and tell them my attn is too low, fix it? and is this causing the issues that when my wireless router is on, i get noise on the line?

This may be simplistic, but I want to nail this down, and fix my issues. Strangely its frustrating even though I'm a network analyst.. I'm stressed, and want to sort this out
ANY help / 1 liners / 1 worders greatly appreciated.

Your SNR Margin being close to 6 dB indicates that you are getting about as fast a data rate as you could expect on that line.

Sky can't wave a magic wand and improve the attenuation.

You need to check your internal wiring.

Yocan fix it yourself. You can maximize your attenuation by unplugging your router, although why anyone would want a higher attenuation is beyond me.

As John says, look at your wiring. Try to get the equivalent stats from the NTE5 test socket - it won't get better than this - you can see how much scope you have for improving your wiring

a 27 dB attenuation line should do 8128 downstream on G.dmt, try it in the test socket behind the faceplate of the BT master or if that doesn't apply to you remove the ring wire from terminal 3 at the back of all your sockets.

You do have every telephonic device fed through a microfilter ? (inc fax / 56k modem / burglar alarm / Sky box / CLID unit / dialler prefix box etc etc)

thanks for your replies gents. Sorry for the painfulness of the question. I was worried that the SNR was too low, but obviously not. I've used link to http://www.dslzoneuk.net and will check on my socket tonight.

Strange thing is I've tried about 5 or 6 different microfilters.. its just frustrating, having to switch off my router, everytime I make a phone call.

If you are on Max ADSL the system trades speed (sync rate) for SNR Margin. It will keep dropping the Margin until you reach a speed of 8128 Kb/s, or it gets to 6dB, or you can't sync reliably.

Yes, highly recommended, improved my speed a little and blanked out the noise I used to get on my DECT phones.

Can you explain this.

Sync speed 8128kbps
Latency = Fast
SNR Down = around 10 to 12.8dB
ATT Down = 15.9dB
CRC errors after 19days 3hours = 330
Errored seconds after 19days 3hours = 175

Now I always get consistant speeds on Namesco of 5Mbps and over day in and day out. which I'm not complaining about.

BUT. I remember in the distant past hitting a speed of 6.2Mbps prior to my line being Interleaved due to something (BT!) screwing it up.

I had Interleaving taken off my line which brought me up to my current speeds from an average of 4Mbps.

BUT. It doesn't get any better than 5.5 Mbps....Why?

Is it because my SNR Down is too high?

No, I'm afraid not. Your sync rate is 8128 which is the maximum. You are talking to the exchange as fast as you can. The weak link is somewhere else.
