Either an exchange issue or ISP issue perhaps.

It would help if you do the BT speed test at www.speedtester.bt.com. Not bothered about the actual speed, though worth knowing. What is important is the IP Profile shown on the results page, also shown as something like "configured throughput speed" on the testing page. Late afternoon and evenings you may have trouble with it as it gets over-loaded and just gives you an error message. Note that after you enter your phone no (and possibly it asks for logon details) it can take 2-3 minutes checking info before it starts the actual test on Tab 2.

With 8128 sync you should have a Profile of 7150, in which case you should get well over 6Mb download at good times. If it is lower than 7150 we need to start to think why.

On 8128 sync, the higher the SNRM the better because you cannot go over 8128 and the higher the SNRM the lower the possibility of losing the connection. Under 8128, then the higher the SNRM the lower the sync possible (at switch-on/re-sync time), so you want the lowest SNRM that doesn't give you frequent disconnections.

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 5175 kbps

According to Zen Exchange Checker and Plusnet Checker, BT's latest data the VP status of your exchange is RED.
A date of 09/05/2007 has been set by BT for the exchange to be upgraded.

It would appear most exchanges always seem to be on red these days.

No matter, At least the speed is consistant.

Thanks

john

Sorry to be so long coming back Johnn, but nothing to say. Your line looks perfect, but with exchange on RED then hopefully after the upgrade everything will be fine
