Firstly, do as john suggests and check your internal wiring and make sure thats all ok.
If it is, then rasie the fault with BT and get an engineer round to check things out (start off with a standard one who will check the wiring, street cebinet, then exchange). If that doesn't sure it, then they can take it further and get a ADSL engineer to look into it.
I had a similar situation, since going to maxdsl, my snr would drop through the floor when the phone rang, but only occasionally. I tried everything, filters, routers, master sockets, you name it. Finally I got an engineer out, and notice the noise on my line (automated checked revealed no faults). He had a look at the cable termination in a junction box, and found a poor connector.
Then he went down the local street cabeinet, found the cable that fed my house, and the cable connector fell off in his hand! The BT engineer was staggered, he was supprised my phone worked at all, let alone my broadband.
Thankfully, he fixed it all up, left the log open for the remainder of teh weekend, just in case the problem came back (he even gave me his mobile number to call if something went wrong) and I haven't had a problem since (touch wood).
So get a hold of BT and get an engineer out, they can be a real help at times.
