Bt line

[link to this post]

Hi guys. Bt came today to reconnect us back to them. Took them about 20 mins so quick.

Just come down to a mates house. Done a speed check and it says i can get 1mb LOL.

I am guessing this is do to them just reconnecting me. The house we just moved from aint that far from were we just moved to so i was expecting simular speeds.

Should i wait for a few days untill i order broadband or just order and now hope its better when it arrives.

This what it says via samknows

You are connected to the *******telephone exchange.

ADSL is available in your area
Your exchange is also enabled for ADSL Max services
According to BT Wholesale, your phone line should be able to support a 1Mbps or greater ADSL connection.

Standard ADSL RAG results
You cannot receive 2Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 1Mbps ADSL
You may be able to receive 512Kbps ADSL
(Engineer visit likely)
You may be able to receive 256Kbps ADSL
(Engineer visit likely)

You are approximately 1.79km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

If the ISP you wish to use will accept the order for the service you want then you can apply now, otherwise it usually takes a day or so to update the checkers. Occaisionally it can take longer

Your exchange is ADSL enabled, and our initial test on your line indicates that your line should be able to have an ADSL broadband service that provides a line rate up to 1Mbps. However due to the length of your line the 1Mbps service may require an engineer visit who will, where possible, supply the broadband service.

Our initial test on your line indicates that your line may not support a reliable ADSL Max broadband service, with current technology. However, an order for 250Kbps broadband speed will still be accepted, but an engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the service.

Our initial test on your line indicates that your line may not support a reliable ADSL WBC broadband service, with current technology. However, an order for 250Kbps broadband speed will still be accepted, but an engineer may need to visit who will, where possible, supply the service.

If you decide to place an order, a further test will be performed to confirm if your line is suitable for the service you wish to purchase.

Thank you for your interest.

Just had this info via a bt website.

I hope this dont mean what i think it means.

You will tend to find that the BT estimates are just that, estimates, and fairly pessimistic ones at that.

Order from your chosen supplier, and see how it goes.

You may want to have a look at the samknows site, and maybe try and figure out the cable length to the exchange.

It could be an outdated number check so that might be irrelevant information, go for broadband, see what happens, and once your connected post your stats then we can work out the true line length and what speeds you should be seeing!

The checkers do nothing to limit your speed, so if you really have a 30dB attenuation line then you will sync accordingly.
If the line length due to oddities of routing is say 50dB then obviously you will sync lower.

The checkers take a few days to catch up to reality when a line is reconnected
