Broadband/BT Openreach woes

[link to this post]

Guys,

Just looking for some advice if possible, cause I'm at the end of my rope with my Broadband.
Upto March this year I was getting a rock solid 4M connection, then suddenly it dropped to 160K and has stayed like that since (sometimes reaches the dizzy heights of 500K but few and far between).

I've contacted my ISP (Demon) a number of times, and to their credit they have sent out 3 different Openreach engineers.

However, each engineer is not aware of any checks the previous has done, so each visit starts right from the top (checking internal wires etc), then it lots of head scratching and sucking of teeth; D-side problem, E-side problem not a lot we can do mate then poof as soon as 2 hours are up they are gone.

I'm at the point now where the last engineer instructed Demon that I can't actually get broadband and my account can be closed at no cost - which is rich considering I've had Broadband for 4 years.

Loads of people on my estate are having similar problems, we are around 2.5K from the exchange on new ish (20 year) estate.

So I'm not sure what else to do; Demon aren't bothered, neither are BT both seem only to keen to wash their hands of me.

I just want an Engineer with some wit about them to help me out and don't mind paying for it cause I work from home (or at least try to), or maybe a new additional line would help.

The sad irony of it all is the first engineer came out with a trainee (learning the ropes) the trainee messed around with the cabling in the underground junction box outside my house and my connection jumped straight from 160 to 1200K, but then he must have put it all back as it was and ran cause his 2 hours where up, I didn't say anything cause I thought I'd get my 4M back and 1.2M wasn't good enough.

Oh how I dream of 1.2M nowadays.

Soz for the ramble / rant

Cheers
Dave

Dont suppose you know any of the stats from when you had ADSL running? i.e. line sync, attenuation and noise margin and then again when it went bad.

If others are having same issues getting all the info together and chasing BT chairmans office can help get the right people involved.

Hi,

Thanks for your response, (un)fortunately things like sync and attenuation where of no concern for me a few months ago so I never checked.

Good idea regarding taking it to the top I think it might be all I'm left with.

Another hairbrained scheme I've just hatched is to maybe get a new line installed with a view to cancelling my current line later, but thats just a 120 gamble I think.

Just really annoyed that BT Openreach can just ditch me like this - infact if I check my phone number now on the BT wholesale website it actually says I can't get broadband !! - although I must have imagined the fact that I've had it over 4 years

Oh by the way my stats are;
Downstream 160Kb
Atten: 57
SNR: 9

Cheers
Dave

Best bet get details from neighbours and if stories all tie up you can try chairmans office or I'll front a collective email

MrSaffron,

Thanks for your offer - I have collected details from my neighbours and we all appear to suffer very slow connection speeds. Unfortunately I was unable to get the DMT tool working on their routers.
On mine DMT shows a complete lack of available frequencies - I dont get anything above 345Khz and the tones I do get seem to have only 2 - 6 bits.

Would it be possible for you to pass me on any details for contacting the chairmans office ?

Thanks again for your help

Regards
Dave
