Line Noise?

[link to this post]

Hi all.

What is the best noise level to have on your line for good ADSL and ADSL2+ Service to work well.

At the minute my current ADSL service on my line is giving me a line noise of 7
but has drop a few times today to 2 or 3.

The target SNR margin is 6dB, which gives a good compromise between speed and stability. Could you post your router stats? See http://www.dslzoneuk.net/adsl_line_stats...

Downstream- 4032kbs
Noise- 7 (Sometimes Drops Down)
Attenuation- 53
Line Distance- 2.3km (1.46miles) (Info from Samknows)
Exchange- Pinxton

Current ISP is Upto 8MB Package on ADSL and will be moving to a LLU package soon

4032Kbps at 53db attenuation is good.

You are not likely to get much better speeds on LLU (but you won't be suffering from the BT profiling ramps).

Yep i think i will get about 4mb max and maybe 5mb on LLU and on the current ADSL i get about 2MB then somtimes 3MB and 3.5MB

Pretty good, probably get 8128Kbps sync sometimes I'd guess

Probably not with "Latency Type Interleave" although I have seen one set of stats showing it (and I thought it wasn't possible).

Those stats look pretty much identical to what I used to get on ADSL. On ADSL2+ I get around 12Mbps.

thanks kwikbreaks and mr saffron - I was a bit unsure about it, and my speeds have varied, occasionally hitting 8m but more normally 5-6M, sometimes worse!

I'm on the edge of town, hence the use of interleaving, which I guess is optional. Do you think it improves things for me, as I think it lessens errors, and thus could improve overall useable throughput?

thanks smile
