Although I have read quite negative comments about Hi-Velocity on numerous forums I have to say my own experience, up to now, has been reasonably positive - nothing more than the odd day or so of problems in the last 5 years.
Saying that, the same forum comments have made me nervous about what I am being told about a current issue with my connection and so I wondered if anyone could advise as to whether what I am being told is 'reasonable' and therefore if I should simply wait for my connection to return.
The issue is simply that I recently moved house (less than half a mile away), kept the same phone number, and asked for my connection to be transfered (HV said that this wouldn't be an issue). Over a week later and many attempts at contacting support I am told that, although my router is showing as 'connected', the connection is still 'tagged' with the previous owners broadband connection, that the tag needs to be removed (5 working days) and my line reconnected (another 5 working days). Reading some of the other posts here about old connections not being disconnected automatically would seem to indicate what I am being told is reasonable (although the 10 working days may not). I was told that it is not necessary to contact BT myself.
I have no reason to doubt that what I have been told, but as I mentioned above, various other forum comments have made me nervous and I wonder whether, in 10 days time, I will still be without a connection, will be struggling to contact support, and back to square one. I am not a n00b when it comes to computers but have to admit to knowing very little about how broadband, LLU, etc etc actually works (and to be honest don't have much interest as long as it works!).
Any guidance greatly received. Thanks!
