Connection reduced to less than half what it was

[link to this post]

I previously early this year was getting a stable connection between 4-6 on an upto 8 meg broadband connection. This was with Toucan who were using Tiscali's internet services and it is now owned by Pipex I believe. God knows.

Now all speed tests show it barely goes over 2.2. Whereas it was usually 6.2 before.

Here is some of the adsl stats after connecting to the test socket and restarting router.

Up Stream
448 (Kbps.)
Down Stream
6912 (Kbps.)

Noise Margin

14 dB Upstream

24 dB Downstream

Attenuation

25 dB Upstream
--- dB Downstream

Is any of this an indication to why it has deteriorated or something to do with maybe my home wiring or ISP?

Your connection is fine according to those stats. I'm a little surprised you aren't syncing higher as you have SNR margin to spare. Perhaps you are being capped by your ISP for downloading too much?

It might be useful to do a traceroute to bbb.co.uk to see if there are any obvious problems. (From Windows command prompt enter traceroute bbc.co.uk).

My pings aren't that bad and are sometimes way awful it's just now my TBB speedtests are at about 2.2MB/280Kbs and my ispconnect speetests range from 260-370.

But I should be getting like 600Kb as previous TBB speedtests show and they were quite reliable.

I wouldn't think they would have speedcapped me cause they should send emails about that and none received plus i'm not that type of high end user these days, usual xbox and so on.

DSL Status: Up
DSL Modulation Mode: GDMT
DSL Path Mode: INTERLEAVED
Downstream Rate: 7136 Kbps
Upstream Rate: 448 Kbps
Downstream Margin: 13 db
Upstream Margin: 25 db
Downstream Line Attenuation: 27
Upstream Line Attenuation: 13
Downstream Transmit Power: 0
Upstream Transmit Power: 0

Now my TBB speedtests are giving me 4726.46 Kbps ( 4.6 Mbps ).

And other sites are giving me. 7.38 Mbps.

So it looks like all along it was a router I was given, Belkin are [censored] I guess, back to my trusty old linksys. smile

7.38Mbps is impossible if the modem is connecting at 7136Kbps, since you the maximum IP throughput will be around 6.4Mbps once you allow for the ATM overheads.

Oh my router isn't always connecting at that if I resync at the right time its in the late 8000's what should I be getting?

Like today for instance my speed tests and downloads have been way over what I usually get, not a lot of congestion to the nice weather I guess?

Tiscali is still pipex so nothing should of changes. If you was getting 6.2mbps you would need to sync into the mid 7000's so your profile has gone slightly down. They provide a slow service on peak times because of congestion with the capacity they have bought.
