The Saturday before last I was reasonably happy with my connection, as moving to WBC and then ADSL2+ improved it.
When I was moved to WBC my line attenuation dropped from 59 dB to 56.5 dB, errors dropped dramatically and sync speed increased, although BT had put me on a 15 dB profile and refused to change it, so I was tweaking.
Then I had a phone call from a BT engineer who said he was in my exchange to repair a fault (the only one I was aware of was that SNR).
So, after he'd gone I rebooted and found that I was unable to sync at above 2268 kb/s although my SNR had been dropped to 6 dB. My router says that I am not interleaved, but for a long time it said my downstream interleaving was at a depth of 160. Before that visit it was never above 16 and I could sync at over 3 mb/s.
Now, if I go to G.DMT I can actually sync at 2272, otherwise it is now 2269. My attenuation never goes above 58 dB, in fact sometimes it drops to 57.5, but my errors have soared back to the level I had before I was moved from what I believed to be a faulty DSLAM to an MSAN.
I've tried 3 routers, a Linksys, a Netgear DG834G and my usual Netgear DG834GT. The 834G says that I am interleaved, the rest say I'm not, but apart from that, everything is the same.
My current downstream stats:-
Noise Margin: 6.0 dB

Does anyone have any idea why my sync speed is around 50% of my max speed down? This is true with all the routers I've tried with different equipment plugged in and even with nothing connected to the test socket bar my router.
My provider, I think, blames it on BT and sees that they will never sort it, so the only way out would be going to LLU.
All was well before the visit of the BT engineer to my exchange to fix a fault that probably never existed. Since then my connection has been rubbish compared with right up to the moment the equipment was interfered with.
Does anyone have any idea what is going on and if there is any way to fix it? In spite of my long line I was getting better performance from ADSL2+ until this exchange visit. From past experience I know that it is just about impossible to get a fault found in exchange equipment, I lived with a DSLAM fault until I was moved to an MSAN, BT could never find any fault but magically it went away when I was moved to newer equipment.
If anyone can help, all suggestions will be gratefully received.

Looks like their fix was to drop you onto a fixed speed 2Meg connection

Why should they do that as I had no complaints apart from the 15 dB SNR, and when I droppd the SNR I had no problems to fix.
Now I can't even get a 2 meg IP profile, it's 3 kb/s too slow.
Is there any way I can get back to WBC, preferably ADSL2+, but old Max would be better than this.
The increased SNR in the past was caused by faults that were fixed, and the last SNR increase from 12 dB to 15 dB it was suggested was caused by my turning my router off at night, that being seen as an unstable connection.
I also don't understand why errors have increased since my speed was halved.

You still are on WBC, just it looks like maybe one of the fixed profiles, intended for vary flaky lines.
Suspect the person at the exchange was not at an exchange, but in a comfy office with the remote control app for the MSAN set-up in front of them. You only need to visit a DSLAM/MSAN to plug physical cables in, the rest should be possible remotely.

Sory, I gave the wrong impression there, because I know I'm still on WBC and ADSL2+.
I did think that maybe my MSAN had been changed, because apart from crazy interleaving (160 for a week, now down to 96) my errors have shot up. Of course putting me on a fixed speed might explain the errors as half the signals are being rejected. I didn't know that you could be put on a 2 mb profile on ADSL2+. What's the point of moving over if your speed is limited to less than your stable Max 8 mb speed?
So I had a stable line, although when I was on a DSLAM, after exchange work, I had a lot of errors, they dropped immensly when I was moved to WBC and a MSAN. After the phone call saying that an engineer was working in my exchange to fix a fault that I didn't know existed the errors shot up to such an extent that I now get over 30 million in 12 hours, at which point I lose sync because the errors are too high.
Before this errors had dropped to a reasonable level and I could hold a connection for over a week at 6 dB SNR on both ADSL1 and ADSL2+. Speeds increased and errors dropped as soon as I was moved to WBC. Apart from an SNR profile that was higher than it should be (15 dB when provider had set to 'stable', remaining the same when changed to 'standard') there was nothing wrong with my line, so why give me a fixed profile? Surely not because I prefer to turn my router off at night and when I'm at work?
Could an engineer have been given the wrong phone number and altered the wrong line? He phoned me to tell me he was at my exchange to fix a fault, I told him I didn't have a fault.
So I now have a flaky line and I didn't have one before this 'exchange visit'.
Recently my provider has asked for retraining, has reduced my profile from Stable to Standard, but last time said that it looked as though I was stuck on the wrong speed profile and could do no more.
Do you know of anything that can be done, or am I stuck on half my speed with too many errors unless I move to LLU? I've had no reply to tickets since the statement that I was probably on a stuck 2 mb sync profile.
If only it were possible to contact BTW without starting your own ISP first! BT make mistakes and nothing can be done about them.
I wonder if others have had the same problem, as there are a lot of bad reports about WBC being flaky.

I'll see if I can get someone in BT Wholesale to take a peek.

can they mix and match if on fixed 2 Mbps line ?

This is a WBC service, so the upstream figures are different than traditional Max (20CN) products

I went LLU with Vivaciti, spot on, no rubbish BT profiling system and on my line get just over 2mbps whereas before I'd be 1-1.5mb at best.
