Advice on Updating Lan Drivers

[link to this post]

Hi, my ethernet broadband connection (Bt Broadband, homehub 2.0), seems to be o.k - but I was wondering if it is worth updating the drivers (Marvell Yukon 88E8050 PCI-E ASF Gigabit Ethernet Controller 2007 version 10.51.1.9) on my desktop and if I do so and want to go back to previous verison, do I simply uninstall the driver and reinstall previous version? BT technical support have discouraged me from doing so, but perviously I updated my wireless driver on my laptop and it made a huge difference in stability and performance.

Thanks.

The saying if it ain't broke don't try and fix it comes to mind, you could open up a can of worms, unless there is already a problem with it I wouldn't worry too much about it, if you don't feel competent to update the driver.

If you really want to then google it.

Thanks - not so much that I am not competent enough, just wondered if it's worth the hassle or whether as you say "if it ain't broke...."

You don't say which OS but in general, it's easy to "roll back" drivers. BT advising users re drivers? Having experienced their help line for their own products, they are the last people I'd take advice frm on any matter.

I am using xp professional. And with regards to Bt - it seems to vary a lot depending on who you get on the other end.

Not trying to be rude here but I would suggest if the title of your subject is anything but a mistype then you shouldn't be trying to update your network drivers...

Sorry I meant Lan - and it was a mistype!

P.S And your comment was a bit presumptuous - anyone can make a simple mistake . It does not necessarily imply a lack of intelligence or knowledge.

I did say assuming it wasn't a mistype wink You never know when on forums what level the user is and therefore all advice with drivers and the likes have to come with a health warning.

Hi I'm running Marvell Yukon 88E8001/8003/8010 PCI Gigabit Ethernet Controller,Marvell 4/21/2009 V10.69.2.3 drivers. Seem stable enough been running a few months, previous version had a memory leak. Seem to put a lot of info in the Event Log can't see any differences other than that.
