Wireless Dropouts

Hi

I am wondering if anyone can suggest a possible solution to the following: My netgear DG834N is showing fairly stable WAN connection times, but WLAN dropouts - on average about 2 or 3 times a day- continue to occur.

There are a lot of wireless networks around (I use inSSIDer) - could that be the problem?

I have tried using different encryption methods and different channels, but the wireless connection still seems unstable. I have also tried to use a belkin wireless adaptor instead of the inbuilt Intel wireless - but still no luck.

P.S The signal strength is either very good or excellent.

what channels are surrounding signals on - can you find some clear air to avoid them ?

There are also devices around like video senders and car alarms that splatter signal across many channels.

There are quite a few users on 1,6, 9 and 11 - which it sems to me are the most commonly used channels. Is there any reason not to use any of the others? As far as other forms of interference are concerned - it is quite possible: I live in quite a built-up area with a lot of potential sources of "noise" (care alarms etc).

P.S Upon further investigation, it seems that the problem lies with the router's stats page. Every night at midnight, the wlan timer resets itself to zero. I have searched around and have not been able to find anything documenting this bug. What leads me to suspect it is a problem with the counter rather than the actual wlan connection is that I experience no interference in the connection, and the timer resets itself to zero exactly at midnight every 24 hours.
