Did you have the Sky box's connected via filters?

no as sky's original wiring was just extension leads all coming of the main filter in the main socket, nothing more than basically buying leads from argos and sticking them to the skirting yourself...

But i guess BT decided to redo it all and use the wiring from when we had two lines ages ago, like 10 years ago when they were gonna add my new work line in my room. however they gave up on that idea and decided to just come from the outside of the house and drill a hole through my wall... they actully left one extension dead and it took me ages to get the council to get them to come back and fix it as the work line was fine... but my house line wasn't.

so just need to place filters i guess, lucky i have about 3 spare...

When it comes to sorting out iffy internal wiring, I always try to point people towards this,

Which shows how it should be done. These days it's fairly normal practice to connect only pins 2 and 5, and leave the others disconnected.

Take each socket off the wall, and figure out what is connected to what, and which colours are used to do it. Others above have gone through what tools you need, bear in mind you can buy a throw-away IDC\Krone tool for a £1 or so from your local DIY shed. They don't last, but will do a better job than a screwdriver.

If you can lilve with the router being at the master socket, just a bit tidier, buy a filtered faceplate and replace the existing "detachable" part. This will isolate all your internal wiring from the ADSL signal, and give results the same as using the test socket. You then don't need individual filters on the extension sockets.

i think the filtered face place is a good the idea, the rotuer i normally in the front room as it needs to cover the whole ouse so that is the best place for it, ive managed to sort out getting all the filters in place now and what wiring was dead but id much rather just seperate the shabby wiring and replace the need for three micro filters anyway.
