NTE5 and no wires on removable faceplate

[link to this post]

I would just like to check a couple of things please

I have removed the ring wire from an extension in the house and then went to do the same in the master socket which is an NTE5 (BT Piper logo) with a removable lower half front faceplate. When I unscrewed this lower half the while thing came away with no wires attaching??? I immediately panicked thinking I had pulled the wires out when I removed it, but I still had phone and broadband via the test socket and also when put back together. There are however loose wires inside?

Does this mean that the extension in the house is not connected anyway? and
Does this matter to my broadband?

My router is connected into the master socket (via filter) not the test socket with 15m of RJ45 cable (not phone extension), because they are not in the same room.

I am looking to switch from Nildram to Talk Talk LLU and want to ensure I have optimised my house so that if I am faced with problems I know it is probably them.

Router stats are currently
Data rate (Kbps) 8128 448
Noise margin (dB) 12.1 23
Output power (dBm) 19.8 11.8
Attenuation (dB) 22 11.5

The SNR was 10.6 and 22 before removing the ring wire from the downstairs extension.

Any advice greatly appreciate
Thanks
EViL

The first thing to do is check that you have a dial tone at the extension. I think that you will and the extension has been incorrectly connected to the phone line, or the NTE-5 is a replacement master fo an old LJ seris one and your extension is wired from a junction somewhere. Your line stats look good, so I would not worry. As long as there is no ring line connected at the master faceplate and the extension socket is the correct type with no components in it you can reconnect the ring line at the extension and leave well alone.
