How frequently does your BRAS profile reconfigure?

I'm running an IPCop box as my router/firewall and recently noticed that I'd enabled traffic shaping and inadvertently capped the transfer rate at 4160. I'm assuming by doing this I've unintentionally caused my BRAS profile to reflect my maximum transfer rate. This obviously depends on whether the BRAS profile is gauged on sync speeds or actual transfer speeds achieved?

Now my sync rates usually hover in the mid 4000's occasionally it goes into the low 5000's and it peaked at 5312 once but this rarely happens.

What I'm interested in is how often the BRAS profile resets, and when I might be likely to see any improvement (if any).

My router stats are currently:

Anyone tell me how I calculate the SNR from these figures too?

Hmm, that sync for the attenuation and SNR is very low. You should be seeing 8128/7616 without a problem.

SNR is currently 13.20 (which is most probably 12db immediately after a reboot).

Have you tried another router/modem?

IP Profile (BRAS) can take 'up to' 5 days to increase - assuming your connection speed doesn't go down. 3 days is usual - 5 days for small % increases.

As the other poster mentions, with that attenuation you should have a much higher connection.

Can you plug in to the 'test' socket behind the removable faceplate and post your line stats again?

What exchange are you on, you could always do away with bras profiling altogether by going LLU <

Something's interfering with your connection I would say. You should be getting a much better speed than that with those stats, but you seem to have a lot of noise on your line. If you pick up a wired phone and tap the hangup switch (to kill the dial tone) can you hear noise or hum on the line?

As someone else suggested, try plugging your router into the test socket 'inside' the master socket faceplate. If you get a significantly better sync speed, you should try disconnecting the orange ring-wire (not needed) and/or invest in an XTE-2005 filtered master socket faceplate (assuming you'd be happy to plug your router into the master socket permanently and use wireless etc).

My current setup is an IPCop router running a Conexant AccessRunner PCI ADSL Modem, this is located in the loft on a telephone extension I installed direct from the master socket. Unfortunately the master socket is in the hall behind the front door and there are no power sockets.

Our telephone line comes in from the telegraph pole at roof height and then goes down the outside of the house to the ground floor and in to the master socket in the hall. I've then run an extension cable back up the same route and into the loft to the router.

I have however recently bought a Netgear DM111P ethernet modem with the intention of running a power over ethernet injector from the loft to the hall and having the DM111P plugged directly into the master socket. Then I can have an ethernet connection back to the router in the loft.

I did consider reinstalling the master socket in the loft, but in the event of a fault I didn't fancy telling the engineer he has to go into our loft

The router is reporting that the current connection time is only 4 days 19 hours, the logs suggest there was a 9 second line drop on the 26th.

Well, you can probably use the router on an extension lead, just to test if it's any faster or not - that way you'll know if it's worth doing anything about it. Unfortunately, extensions running up into the loft end up acting like AM radio aerials. At the very least - try disconnecting the orange ring wire. This gave me quite a big boost in one house I was in.

Hi, as I mentioned it's worth trying the 'test' socket and posting your line stats so people can see if it's your internal wiring that's messing things up...

Just tried that and there is a very faint high pitched harmonic with a regular 'tick', but it is exceptionally faint.

Dial 17070, press option 2 (quiet line test)

Can you hear anything then?
