What's trimmed ADSL?

Hi All,

Home BB is playing up again. D/S sync is randomly fluctuating between 992kbps and 160kbps and anywhere in between. Replaced router, filter, modem cable and phone, and all connected into the test socket behind my NTE5. No apparent noise on line. Problem persists day and night. BTOR say everything is ok. No errors evident.

Been on the blower to my ISP (was KeConnect, now Timico), and we're talking about trimming the ADSL. I've never heard of it. Can anyone shed some light on what happens? All I do know is that it isn't capped rate ADSL Max.

Router stats: -

D/S rate 160~992kbps
D/S att 63.5db
D/S margin 12db
D/S tx power 15

U/S rate 448kbps
U/S att 15.5db
U/S margin 12db
U/S tx power -1db (yes, minus 1!!)

I haven't heard that term before. Maybe your ISP is thinking of putting you on a fixed 512k connection instead of rate-adaptive to try and resolve your issues with sync.

No, it's not fixed rate. We discussed that as being a final option. I couldn't find anything on it in Google. Wish I asked them but was pushed for time.
