DSLAM Chipset

I feel sure than when I looked - some months ago now - that my TG585v7 was showing my DSLAM chipset as being Broadcom i.e.
Local TMMB (Thomsons version of the Broadcom chip) and the DSLAM as BDCM (Broadcom)

Having recently purchased a DrayTek Vigor 2710n, and it shows the DSLAM as being TI (Texas Instruments)

Thinking it may be some sort of 'glitch' with the DrayTek, I connected the TG585 and sure enough it shows TMMB / TSTC when I am pretty certain it used to show TMMB / BDCM.

TSTC is still Texas Instruments as I understand.

I thought - perhaps wrongly - that BT used Broadcom chipsets or have BT always used some DSLAM's with other than Broadcom chipsets?

If so it may be that they changed a 'faulty' Broadcom for a Texas Instrument one but I have never had any problems; always sync at 8128 regardless of router used.

Only about 700 metres from the exchance, so the proverbial 'bit of wet string' would probably be OK as well

There again, it's quite likely that I am suffering from a touch of 'brain fade'

You're right BT do use different chipsets and TSTC is TI.

I'd be interesting to see how you get on with the Vigor on the exchange with the TI chipset.

Are you seeing more errors than you did with your old router? We had major issues with our test Vigors and an exchange just 200 meters away that had a TI chipset.

Not seen a broadcom as showing on my test kit round this way.

Also, surely, unless ceased and reprovided, if they had to swap the kit in the exchange, it would be replaced like for like, wouldn't it ?

I am seeing more RX CRC errors - no TX CRC errors - than with the TG585 but it is only ~ 25 in a 24 hour period (on average)

This does not cause any problems as far as I can detect.

I understand (from trawling around numerous sites) that Infineon had bought out Texas Instruments and that the 2710 series has a Infineon Amazon chipset, which is a variation on the Texas Instrument AR7 chipset.

I have no confirmation of the 2710 chipset manufacturer as yet from DrayTek, but I have asked the question of their support team.

Interesting. See if your sync drops/snr is altered in the next coming days/weeks. As it would prove our theory that we have seen on lines with the same Vigor/TI mix.

Swapping back out to the speedtouch made the issue go away and once the SNR was reset, never changed and stuck to 8128.

When I said that I had "recently purchased a DrayTek...." I perhaps should have been more specific.

The 2710n has been running for 4 weeks now sync remains at 8128, as it has been for 4 years.

Regarding the SNR; with the TG585v7 and the SpeedTouch 585v6 before it, the SNR was always 9dB.

It is now 11dB sometimes it shows as 12dB , so I'm not sure how that leaves your theory.

I will of course be monitoring both values and post back if there are any changes.

Strange. The lines we've had issues with have all been Vigor/TI and the ones that have swapped out to Speedtouch have reported no errors, and once the SNR was reset, never shifted.

Could just be down to the line but the number we have seen and test just stands out too much.

This line has held 8128 and has never missed a beat, but then its got 'special routing' so far as the pairs go.

Then at home its a 2820n This line had issues some time ago and never recovered (old router died sent the SnR up to 15dB at one point. Could never get it reset bck to the default 6dB.

My DSLAM has always reported a TI chipset, but I don't have any other routers to test with.
