Sockets NTe5 with earth connector and without?

Sockets NTe5 with earth (next to the A and B connector)? Which of these was the earliest with the earth or without ? Which is the better model?
How about the BT ADSL accelerator and a filtered faceplate? Is there an advantage be it ever so small?

earth is older version, otherwise the same functionally. Filtered faceplates etc only advantage with extensions really, but the accelerator / iPlate is cheap enough to try it and see.
