Noise margin - too high??

[link to this post]

Hi,

I was looking at the router stats and the Noise Margin looks high to me. To be fair, I never looked before. Can someone advise?

Stats returned by the Belkin 7634 router on the main router page post-login

Type Fast Path
Status SHOWTIME

DOWNSTREAM

Data rate(Kbps) 576Kb

Noise Margin 31

Output power(dBm) 119

Attenuation(dB) 37

UPSTREAM

Data rate(Kbps) 288Kb

Noise Margin 28

Output power(dBm) 112

Attenuation(dB) 22

Cheers
Paul

They're fine.

You're on a fixed half meg service, not on an "up to 8 meg" service.

Indeed they are fine, unless you want faster services in which case the problem is being on fixed 512Kb. There is lots of margin there for getting faster speeds (and with most ISPs the cost would probably be no more than the fixed servic currently received by the OP).

The one benefit is that the service should be incredibly stable with that amount of margin.
