Long BT Line - will a new line help?

[link to this post]

I'm with BE who had been pretty much rock solid since I joined last June.

Then I started to have some problems. For the last month or so though, my line goes down several times an hour, and it is SLOOOOW.

I have tried:

Checking for line noise
Changed my ADSL filter
Changing my RJ45 cable
Changing my ethernet cable
Different PCs
And everything else I can think of

I do not have a separate test socket on my 'master' socket - there is no NT5 faceplate.
My house is only ten years old.

I gather that I *am* a reasonably long way from the exchange
http://www.samknows.com/broadband/exchange/NEMP

According to Google Maps I am about 2.3 miles or 3.7 km from the exchange 'as the crow flies'.

According to SamKnows "You are approximately 3.11km from the exchange. Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!"

I was getting solid connections at between 3-3.5 which was good enough for me.

This looks interesting, though:

BT are also offering a free new line at the moment - the main reason for posting is to ask if this is worth pursuing to see if I can get a shorter line?

A new line maybe better or worse and ties you into a minimum term.
Better to try and get things working on what you already have.
Have you contacted Be about your problems?
What are your connection stats (attenuation/margin/line rate, etc).
Do you have extensions or just one socket?
Most poblems can be resolved either your self or with a little help from your ISP/BT

In that case your line is not that long! - Well not compared to mine.

I suggest that you pursue your problem with BE as there must be some reason for your line deteriorating.

What may give you some improvement is having a new master socket fitted and then using a filtered face plate with your router connected to it.
