Master Socket Attenuation

I've been trying my router in the NTE5 socket to see if it performs any better than on an extension, and came up with some seemingly unusual results. Currently the extensions run off the IDC connectors on the back of the front plate. I get different attenuation figures under different scenarios:

When I connect the router to the extension - 22.0db
When connected to the front socket on the NTE5 - 24.5db
When connected to the test socket - 20.5db

I was surprised to find I got a better sync rate and lower attenuation figures off the extension than from the front socket. Is this normal? I would have expected almost the same attenuation figures as when plugged into the test socket.

You would expect so. As there is nothing in the front section apart from straight through connections, it would logically appear to be due to poor/loose/dirty contacts on the front section.

I suspected that might be a problem . I was considering moving the router to next to the socket and fitting a filter front plate from ADSL Nation. Should fix the problem, right?

A lot depends on what the other figures are too, i.e. attenuation may display higher, but you can have a better sync if the SNR situation has improved.

As MrSaffron says it depend on the sync figures in the various sockets.

What are the router stats attenuation, SNR and Connection speed in the test socket and the extension?
