Strange interruptions to ADSL service - advice needed

Hopefully you can help me � an amateur in the world of Broadband. Not understanding much about how ADSL works I�m not sure if this is the right place for this problem. Feel free to move it if its not in the right place

For several years I had a steady sync speed of around 2Mb+. Thought nothing of it but around two months ago a problem on the line was fixed and (since then??) have had disturbances on the line causing me to get a download speed of around 700K. Due to regular interruptions on the line causing resync and BRAS profile remaining low

When I got broadband originally BT�s site told me that I should expect around 2Mb and this was what I got. Since I have been complaining about the problem I have, BT first reduced the �expected� speed for my (fairly long) line to 1Mb and recently to 512K . Interestingly today we have had three brief power outages (power lines in a state of collapse as well as BT copper??) and the resync was 2336 and 9Db margin each time vs the 1120 and 15+Db I need to leave it at to avoid resyncs.

Line tests OK on voice (of course) and ISP says that with a 512K line speed on the BT Wholesale computer any connection at above 512 is OK (I get download of c700K in real terms) This is OK for browsing and email but no iPlayer or other video streaming in real time.

I think there is a real problem on my line and here are some graphs � redrawn from Routerstats data on Excel.

Around 1 day in 4/5 I get uninterrupted service � often on a Saturday

Every other day I get interruptions � only ever in the evenings and at variable times between around 1900 and 2400 hours

Usually a double spike such as

What does it all mean and what do I complain about to get my speed back

Final irritation is that despite being in the sticks I�m near a 3 MBB tower and can get a consistent 2Mb to 2.5Mb download on the netbook I use for travelling � I assume that others in my part of the sticks are not into MBB � I�d ditch BT in a moment for a decent price plan on 3

Are these taken from the test socket behind the ADSL faceplate?

No, but as nothing has changed in my house since before the problem I doubt that this will reveal a problem in the house wiring. Good point though - will run an extension cablle from the test socket and report result...

The extension cable could make things worse.

The plots look like interference bursts, something electrical possibly.
