Sync Speeds and Estimated Maximums

[link to this post]

Up until late last year, I used to get at least 2Mbps (I didn't monitor it directly, because we were happy enough with the service)

Since then, the connection has been consistantly connecting at 0.5Mbps - with no drops, no other problems, just a consistantly low speed.

Speaking to O2 (on the access package), they say that because the estimate on the line is 512kbps, then it's never going to get faster - and because I only joined them recently (better deal and service than the previous provider), and it was estimated at 512kbps when I joined them, there's nothing they can do. Obviously, I'm frustrated because I've had definitively faster speeds, and don't understand why the estimated speed is so low compared to real life speeds I was getting until relatively recently.

Stats
Data rate
D/S: 576Kb U/S: 288Kb

Noise Margin
D/S: 33 U/S: 31

Output power(dBm)
D/S: 111 U/S: 86

Attenuation(dB)
D/S: 30 U/S: 16

Can anyone give me any hope, or shed light on dealing with such an issue?

Thanks
James

Looks like they've put you on a fixed speed 500K service. Ask to be moved to ADSL Max

Intended for use to show estimated speed if he/she moves from a fixed speed.......

Other than the line stats, is there anything that would indicate that I've been put on a fixed speed service rather than ADSL Max - as my belief is the package doesn't offer fixed speed conntections only Max? And furthermore, is this something that's done at the exchange (i.e. was set up by BT through my previous isp), or something that O2 have control over?

O2 say that can't do anything else at this stage, as they're saying that my connection speed is consistent with the estimate (which whilst true, doesn't solve the issue).

edit: thanks, by the way, for responding so quickly

The line stats are quite clear. If you were on Max, you'd sync at about 7 Megs.
Keep on at customer "support".

Nothing of the sort, they are just doing 'the computer says no' and their computer is wrong.

Email me on Monday with the o2 details and telephone number of the line (and a set of the stats as you posted) and will pass on to o2 with a 'please sort out' note.
