Anyone way to improve my ping?

[link to this post]

Hey guys, anyway to improve my ping:

If I do a ping on command prompt - bbc.co.uk

I get about 53-54ms.

Is there any technical way to improve this.

Thanks

You mean like this on my BE connection?

Orange may have added interleaving on your line to make it more stable. Some providers like Sky set this on for all lines regardless of line length or quality.

Possibly. Your ADSL line could be set up in either interleaved or fast path mode. If it is set up as interleaved you might reduce pings by say 15ms if you change to fast path.

The bad news is that only your ISP can do this and some don't allow it.

Which router have you got? Someone might know how to check the current setting.

And just for comparison; my BE connection (interleaved)....

Pinging www-fmt.bbc.net.uk [212.58.246.159] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.58.246.159: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=57
Reply from 212.58.246.159: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=57
Reply from 212.58.246.159: bytes=32 time=18ms TTL=57
Reply from 212.58.246.159: bytes=32 time=19ms TTL=57

Ping statistics for 212.58.246.159:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 18ms, Maximum = 19ms, Average = 18ms

So; apart from getting interleaving turning off, which will make maybe 6-9ms difference (at most I would suspect), you're correct; the best way to improve pings is to switch to a less rubbish and non-overloaded ISP.

ADSL2+ with BE
DL Sync around 4.8Mbps
UL Sync 1088kbps

Orange is the only LLU operator up here. Also, I'm not going back to O2 Access. That was rubbish. I got 80-150ms ping from that ISP.

Though my ping now isn't too bad.

I'd say channel FAST means your line is not interleaved. It looks like you're stuck with slow pings unless you have other ISPs available to you.
