BT internal wiring setup

Hi Guys, hoping some one will be able to help

I am just about to install a alarm system in my home that needs to be connected to a BT line and I am not sure how to add the extra socket, I have no problems doing it, I am just not sure where to add the required socket.

The BT line comes into my house almost straight away goes into what can only be described a a connection box (British Telecom box 52A), 2 cables in 2 cables out, it then goes onto the master socket in another room. Would It be ok just to take another pair of wires from this connector box so the new socket would run in parrallel with the master socket

I would connect the new extension to the back of the removable faceplate on the Master Socket.
This means that when you use the TEST socket it will disconnect all the internal wiring as it's supposed to.

Even better get a faceplate filter to replace the removable faceplate on your Master Socket and use the filtered connections for the alarm.

Technically you cannot touch the 52A as it is before the master - however some alarm installers have BT approval to do so.

The alarm should be hard-wired and not via a standard plug/socket and also, if possible not connected to the removable face plate of the NTE but it must also be filtered. If it was connected to the faceplate and you remove the plate to test the connection - your alarm will be triggered or the response centre will notice a loss of link and try calling you which will not work so the police could soon be on the way.

The solution is to use a filtered alarm line box - it has an internal ADSL filter but no externally accessible connections. It will be hard-wired to the master or perhaps the 52A and on the other side hard wired to the control panel.

Alarm connections can be made to the incoming line and not the faceplate. If connected to te faceplate, when removed for testing it will cause and alarm condition.

The alarm is not going to be connected to a monitoring company, but will ring 4 deisignated numbers. Having just been burgled I need to sort some thing out
