New house wiring - Help me please! :)

[link to this post]

I have had my telephone activated on my new house, I pugged in my TS 585v6 and got these stats (broadband not activated yet):

Link Information
Uptime:
0 days, 0:01:46
Modulation:
G.992.1 Annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:
288 / 576
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [KB/KB]:
1.00 / 0.00
Output Power (Up/Down) [dBm]:
11.0 / 15.5
Line Attenuation (Up/Down) [dB]:
31.5 / 60.0
SN Margin (Up/Down) [dB]:
25.0 / 25.5

Firstly I thought oh no, only half a meg! Then looking at the SNR also the wiring explained below it may not be as bad as it seems?

When taking off the main junction point from entry into the house I am faced with this image, close up of upper section here and lower section here.

As you can see I have marked where each of the wires goes to, it would be ideal if we could retain the telephone points in the bedrooms and dining room if needed but not essential.

I have brought a new BT master socket do i literally install the new socket, bring the white with blue stripes to terminal 5 and blue with white stripes to terminal 2 then run the extensions off of the backing plate to it?

There seems to be other wires in the mix that I do not know anything about at the moment and I'm hopeful one of you genned up guys will be able to help me.

Many thanks in advance!

Looks like the previous occupant had a fixed 512Kb service, as these are the rates for such.
Personally, I wouldn't do anything until your new service is active, then look at the stats again.

Old fixed speed service, with plenty of spare noise margin, so don't go fiddling until new service is up and running

Yes, but it is illegal to do so, the type of installation you have requires BT to fit an NTE5.

The current installation could also be causing issues hence the stats.

The stats indicate an old Home 500 service, or Max with fixed 500 Profile.

No evidence of any problems, i.e. lots of noise margin to sacrifice to get 2 to 3Meg from the line.

Pray BT don't have to visit your property for a fault then is all I'll say.

What's wrong with your current master socket? Those images appear to be junction boxes (to my inexpert eye).

At previous property when I had faults all the bt open reach guys have all been friendly and amicable, I can have a chat with them about things if i ever need to get them out, I also deal with the newsite reps through work, if they wanted to slap my wrist that's a risk I can live with lol, although from some of these comments it appears I may not have to even worry about doing anything.
