Re: 8kb/s download on top Post Office Internet package..

That's it! What's the problem? You omitted it 1st time. Didn't need all that "tone" & "in/out" gubbins.

You should be getting about 5 Meg down (shows an up to 20 Meg package is no use to you).

Have you removed ring wire? Changed filters? Plugged into test socket hidden behind faceplate?

Please get a set of the useful stats immediately after reconnecting in daylight from test socket.

Think you may have a wiring problem.

1999: Freeserve 48K Dial-Up => 2005: Wanadoo 1 Meg BB => 2007: Orange 2 Meg BB => 2008: Orange 8 Meg LLU BB => 2010: Orange 16 Meg LLU BB

I have the "up to 20mb/s" package with the Post Office, however ....

Are you sure you're on up to 20 Mbps??

Can anyone produce any link that shows Post Office offering this package?

TIA....

I could be wrong, it's actually my girlfriend's house connection! I think actually it may be the 8mb/s package with the phone. It shows as 26GBP on their site. We tried adding an iPlate to the phone line which I believe was meant to prevent interference, but that did nothing.

The Post Office said they could send an engineer out, but if they found no fault, we'd be charged. So, i'm unsure as to what to do. Is downloads in the <10kb/s normal for the Poplar exchange, or should I get onto the PO?

you have two separate issues. Firstly your connection speed at 1120 is a notch below 1M so your profile is probably 750k. speedtester.bt.com will reveal it.

Your noise margin downstream: 30 db points to a problem, if you restart the router does it drop to 15 or less with a consequent increase in reported router speed from 1120 ?

Secondly the slowdown is due to the exchange load or the ISP load, clock a few busy time speed tests with the above if it'll run.

MaxDSL - goes as fast as it can and doesn't read the line checker first.
