Re: Since install of BT iPlate line drops...

[re: deleted] [link to this post]

I did some testing today. Just plugging the router into the test socket behind the faceplate (no iplate) sync several times at 1.8 mpbs !!!! The best it even gets is about 0.8, usually around 0.6 to 0.4. That's quite a massive improvement, so the degradation is caused by the internal wiring it would seem. I then plugged in the iplate and tried the router plugged direct into that but today I couldn't get it to connect at all.

I also tried just the router as normal on a extension socket, a filter and all other components disconnected. The speed as back to the usual sub 0.8mpbs, it has to be a cabling fault then to loose so much speed ?

Without the iPlate being used take a look at

http://www.thinkbroadband.com/faq/sections/radsl.htm... removing the ring wire does most of what the iPlate does, but without introducing an extra set of contacts.

If the wiring is odd, i.e. pin 3 at the master, is connected to 2 or 5 at the extension, then the iPlate I believe will mess up your ADSL.

Pin 2 at master should go to pin 2 at extension.
3 to 3 (or disconnected at both ends to avoid ring wire issues)
Pin 2 to pin 5

Also wires on 2 and 5 should be from the same twisted pair.

After a bit of a delay I've pulled the ring wire and the SNR etc improved a very tiny bit. Connection speed is still around 0.6 mbits but using the master socket behind the front plate gets 2mb.

Not sure what to do now due to the complicated dual line setup. I guess get a professional in to find the problem ?
