If you are getting congestion it will be in BT's network. So you can only avoid that by moving to an LLU ISP. Do you have any? What's your exchange?

You "have shot past their cap" only because they have deliberately removed it, as witnessed by your router stats. They wouldn't penalise you for that. You are no longer on an 8 meg package despite what Your Account says.

Remember I said that "If your throughput is up & down while your actual connection (sync) speed given by your router ("Connection Speed 17839 kbps 1255 kbps") is about steady, then you are probably suffering from congestion"? We have only seen one instance of your router stats.

Whenever you get a slow speedtest you need to check your router stats to see if your Sync has held steady or also decreased. That will confirm whether you are suffering from congestion or whether you have a noise problem on line.

Hi XRay

My exchange is Rushey Green, London SE6 3AT and if I am reading it right then yes they have LLU ISPs so I can move if need be although I don't really want to do that as I have a very good deal with Orange.

I will keep a record of my router stats for a while and am I correct in thinking that is my sync speed remains steady then its congestion and I need to move. If the sync speed decreases noticeably then it could be noise on my line?

Again thank you for taking the time to answer all of the questions I keep throwing in here, I really appreciate it.

I'd imagine a London exchange is likely to be congested.

For LLU your best bet would be O2/BE.
