Faceplate Wiring HEELP!

Hello, we moved in to this house in 2007. We have 4 extension sockets and they don't work. We have the master socket in the living room and my computer is downstairs with it. The socket is NTE5 one however we have another one upstairs. I connected my router to the one upstairs and it does not work. I recently unscrewed the screws and opened the NTE5 and I find the test socket. I also have noticed that the wiring has not been connected to the faceplate. If I connect the wires to the faceplate, will it start working meaning that I can have my router upstair's?

Is the one upstairs one of the four that don't work?

Well basically the master socket is NTE5 and I have discovered another one upstairs. And yes, all sockets do not work apart for the one downstairs.

Well basically here it is;

Living Room = NTE5 MASTER SOCKET (working telephoneline & internet)

Kitchen = A normal socket. (not working)

Master Bedroom = A normal socket. (not working)

Study room = A normal socket. (not working)

Dining room = A normal socket. (not working)

Small Bedroom = NTE5 Socket? (not working, I recently removed face plate and no wires were connected to face plate.)

I want my router to be in the small bedroom thanks.

Sounds like there might have been a 2nd line in the property at some point, hence the 2nd NTE.

In the back of the working NTE downstairs, is there 'spare' unterminated cable/s ?

you realise it's likely to go slower if you connect up the extensions ?

On the working master, if there are no extensions connected to the removable faceplate then its pretty easy to say thats why the others dont work.

You can connect two extensions to this master faceplate (thats all the IDC jaws will cope with). Daisy chain more if you need them.

IMPORTANT Extensions can affect the speed of your broadband. So only connect pins 2 & 5 and remember that phones at the extensions all need microfilters.

An ADSL faceplate may be a neater solution especially if the ADSL modem can be connected to the master socket
