New flat /no idea/ help

Hi,

I have just moved into a relatively new build flat and have no idea how the phone cabling works. In a cupboard there is a standard phone socket which works but underneath there is a bank of 12 cat-5 connections wired to the standard phone socket.

In the main rooms there are asdl ports in the wall but these dont work?
Any ideas how to fix this or even explain what the bank of cat-5 connections is for.
I understand this is probably a real newbie question but any help greatly appreciated.

Some photographs of the sockets and the cabling - both at the central point and the individual outlets would be useful.

Could we have a photograph of the wiring etc in the cupboard?

Are the "ADSL" connections in each room RJ45 sockets (standard internet) or are they just normal BT telephone sockets? Are they marked "ADSL"?

While you could distribute telephone or ethernet around the flat you wouldnt distribute "ADSL".

It is obviously some kind of distribution system, the question is what is being distributed?

Do you have working phone and ADSL?

Not unusual to find new builds with structured data cabling in them. You'd fit your router and your cordless phone base in the cupboard (at what *should* be the NTE). Then patch data round to where required via the patch panel.

This is of course all conjecture,until you can link some photos.
