BT socket / Broadband

Hi Everyone,

Need some help here. My broadband is now live but it won't work.

Opened up the bt socket and none of the wires are connected so confused as to where does everything connect up to?

I got 4 wires inside. Green, orange, blue and brown

Got connections A and B inside and 1 to 6 on the faceplate.

Does the telephone work?

Do you have any extensions? If not, nowt should be connected to faceplate.

Have your tried BB in hidden test socket revealed by faceplate?

Sorry i mean there are no wires connected so i will need to connect them. Dont want to get an engineer since it is costing.

Ok, does the phone work?

As others have asked does your normal telephone work?
If yes, then the ADSL should work if you use filters as shown in the guide your provider should have sent out.

If the phone does not work, can you confirm whether the telephone has ever worked on this line and are you paying voice line rental?

No wires connected.

I can see the four coloured wires coming into the box but inside the wires have been disconnected and isolated.

I have just moved into this flat and paying for voice line and broadband

So, how do you make phone calls?

Do you pay BT or another provider for the voice service?


If you do, then you need to call BT and tell them you have no actual service on the incoming line. If it is a real fault, then BT will NOT charge.

Does the phone work though?
