There are two tabs in the router which seem to have "stats" but I'm not sure this is the information needed. Anyway I've summarized all the information which hopefully is relevant:

Is that on a page where you can make your own settings or on a page just reporting current status? Clearer to copy verbatim rather than summarize as you may make assumptions about things you may not know.

The presence of the Annex choices makes me suspect they are settings. In which case you could try setting ADSL2+ (G.992.5) there. However if it is really the current status then G.DMT explains the 448K Up Sync. If you would just tell me your exchange, as I keep asking, I would be able to tell you whether G.DMT is all you can get there.

What about the IP profile?

Sorry I forgot to let you know the exchange nearest is Diss in Norfolk which is about 2.5 miles away. The router was supplied by the Post Office and its pages are completely alien to me despite downloading the manual - I just don't understand the technical terms.
The 6304/448 was on the Status page and has been showing 6016/448 since yesterday evening. It has also shown 6336/448 so I assume this is the DSL rate . Speed has also now dropped back to about 4.75Mbps but this is fine for me providing it doesn't deteriorate. I'm unable to copy and paste or print the displayed pages from the router. The other figures are shown under Diagnostics page - DSL tab. I understood that ADSL2+ was available from about this time last year.

Sorry again - forgot IP Profile. It has been 6.0 since they intervened Tuesday ( 16th) and I've just done another check.
BTW test: Download speed 5.18Mbps. 7.15 maximum achievable speed. DSL rate 6.02 Down 0.45 Up. IP Profile 6Mbps

You connection stats are currently extremely good. It was a stuck or recalcitrant IP Profile that was causing the problem. It may have reduced because you had noise or discons on the line before. It is now 6 Meg. Just keep an eye on it.

To find which telephone exchange you are connected and the line distance use SamKnows.

Note that this is the straight line distance - the actual cable length will be longer!

In my case the line length is 2 km but the straight line distance is given here as only 801 m.

EDIT: It is only line length that is important!

Thanks again for the replies - still IP profile 6Mbps & keeping my fingers crossed as it will be a week come Tuesday. I used "Sam Knows" and it shows a distance of exactly 3.969km or about 2.5 miles in real money from Diss exchange. When I look at the services available it cannot find my address although the drop down menu shows my house! However when I use the old name of the house it then shows availability of 1 Mbps ADSL or BT 21CN services along with Talk Talk and Sky. This makes me suspect some of their databases may (or may not!) be a little bit out of date.
