Phone Number Porting

I live in a small rural town and my telephone provider is Frontier Communications.

I have wanted to switch my phone to a VOIP but no one can seem to port my number for me. Everyone says they do not have an agreement with my carrier.

Now Verizon Wireless can port my home number for some strange reason.

So my question is, If I have Verizon Wireless port my number to a cell phone, and I sign up for a 1 year contract, after that 1 year do you think I can then Port my number to a VOIP?

Or will the VOIP companies still have issue with the number?

The US has zip codes rather than post codes.

OFCOM regs regarding phone # porting don't apply in US and, I think, we don't know US rules.

Can't you enquire on equivalent site in US?
