Why Do FTTC migrations require an Engineer?

As per title, In this day an age and given that Openreach own all the FTTC cabs the fact that they seem to need to send an engineer to physically move the line onto a different port seems a bit silly.

Even when moving from an LLU - GEA to a BTW based ISP it's still the same FTTC cab providing the service you'd think they'd just be able to remote in and reconfigure the port onto the appropriate vlans.etc

Well it turns out maybe they can...

Basically I was supposed to migrate from Sky to Plusnet today but BT stuffed up the order, Plusnet managed to reshedule for tomrrow.

About 30mins ago my Sky FTTC died, and I noticed the Logs in my router were showing PPP auth failures against Plusnet's Gateways. (I'd already configured the PPP interface on the router since my router can support multiple interfaces)

Called plusnet and got them to turn my account on and it auth'd :-/

I had something similar, they (BT) mucked up my dates, giving PN 3 different dates , BT then changed over the connection on the first date given but failed to notify PN, so ended up with a couple of hours without IP trying to sort the mess out.
