Re Wiring To Get Internet *HELP*

Hi,

Ive just moved into a new house which an old person lived in before but someone had wripped (literally) the master box off the wall and let the cables lie about, I began too unscrew the little box in the livingroom as the cables were only connected too that. Ive attached pictures of the internet cables comimg into the house then the master box and the wires that come through too the livingroom. Im technically minded so can hopefully fix this. I hope you can help

When you order the new phone line as part of the install fee you should get a new master socket fitted. Any extension wiring would be at extra cost

Yes, but you are not meant to interfere with the incoming line, only extension wiring.

As for which wires go to the A & B connectors on the back of the master socket, depends on the actual cable coming into the property.

You are far better to leave it as it is.

When a phone account is closed a final bill is produced and a stop is put on the line, the original number is removed and a new number allocated ready for the new customer.
I can only assume that the original customer checked the line and could still hear a dial tone so leaped to the wrong conclusion that the line was still active so ripped out the sockets to prevent any calls being made.

If you were to connect up the socket to the line and dial 17070 you would hear the new number ("this line is defined as whatever the new number is") but you cannot do any tests, or use the phone for other than emergency calls (999) .

leave the line as it is and let openreach fit a new socket, or if there is a problem they will assume you have vandalised their kit.

You can dial 999 on a 'soft' stopped line ? Are you sure ?

You appear to have the answer in your hands already, judging from the pictures.

But as the other posters have pointed out, you shouldn't really be touching the wiring before the NTE.

There is a standard line connection fee that has to be paid (unless the supplier has a special deal running).
