BT Wholesale Speedtest

Recently BT notified us that following some work at the exchange (not able to find out what but we are still on ADSL Max) our BB speed should be better.

On checking the router I saw that the sync speed had gone from 8124 to 9064 so an improvement. Running the BTW speedtest in Internet Explorer (or Edge) reports a down speed of 13.2 Mb/s but same test in Chrome reports 8.3 Mb/s, previously they have both agreed.

So with a sync speed of 9064 and an IP profile of 8.44 Mb/s can I really be getting 13 Mb/s and, if not, what has happened to the BTW tester ?

Can you post the line stats reported by the router please?

No, the checker is in error. Those sort of issues can be caused by things running on the local PC (some virus checkers have been known to cause erroneous results).

It may also be an incompatibility between the checker and Windows 10 - don't know if anyone on here has posted any results using Win 10 yet to know if there might be a problem there.

Maximum sync speed on ADSL Max is 8128 Kbps, you sure that the exchange has not had WBC ADSL2+ added?

I'm trying to get them into a clean format, will do ASAP

No I'm not sure, the exchange is Langford (SMLA) and BT recently reported they had done an upgrade but I could not find any details so it may be ADSL2+. Since we are not even on BT's rollout plan I know its not Infinity .

Thank you for the information which explains why BT believes my line should run faster. Does that mean that my IP Profile (8.44 Mb/s) does not constrain my line speed or is the speed checker reporting an erroneously fast speed (anything from 10 to 13 Mb/s) depending on time of day ??

The BT Wholesale speed test is fine for learning your IP profile, but is known to give odd results sometimes for actual speed testing.

The start of your journey is the connection speed, attenuation and noise margin figures from your modem. Without those we are all guessing at what might be possible.

ADSL Link........................Downstream...................Upstream
Connection Speed............9568 kbps.......................832 kbps
Line Attenuation................19 db .............................6 db
Noise Margin.....................12 db.............................15 db

Router stats as above, IP Profile is 8.44 Mb/s, BTW tester reports 13.44 Mb/s Downstream, 0.71 Mb/s Upstream.

Is the 13.44 Mb/s likely to be real ??
