Understanding My Tone Graph

Hi there,

I am just doing some learning as my broadband has degraded from 13Mb to 8Mb.....I have tried to get the SNR margins lowered which never last long before DLM put them back up.....I was wondering if this Tone graph holds any clues but am not sure what I should be looking for....

Any opinions if it looks ok or not ?

The first looks sort of normal, the SNRM graph in the second is completely crazy.

Was anything electrical or electronic in the house switched on between the two? Possibly something on, and something else off.

The question includes anything, such as fluorescent or LED lights, vacuum cleaners, particular TVs, Sky boxes, similar in children's rooms, electrical exercise equipment. Anything at all electrical. This may even include next door wrt terraced or semi-detached houses, though answering the question wrt them may not be simple.

Is this a regular occurrence at this time, or is it random?

They were taken at the same time.....the first shows SNR and the second pic shows SNRM.

I wasnt sure which would be more beneficial for fault finding so posted pics of both

I always use the master socket, Tried 2 routers/adsl filters.......If I listen carefully on a quiet line test I can hear a very faint noise blipping quite frequently (but at random intervals)....... the noise doesnt sound like a 'blip', but I'm not sure how else to describe it.

It is very faint so unsure if this is worthwhile reporting ?

Oops. I'm so used to everyone calling SNRM SNR, including many routers and software, that I didn't spot that.

It's probably your error counts that we need to see.

Is there any extension wiring connected to the master socket front plate, and if so, what do those stats look like with the front plate removed and the router in the test socket ?

I tried the test socket but it made no difference.....then again, there were no other wires attached to the pins on the back of the plate either.

There is only the master socket in the house if that's what you mean, filtered to the router and phone.

Over half your packets are needing correction. Over 122 million in under 8 hours. That's about 4,600 per second. Your router is doing little but error correction.

What do speed test results give?
