Re: Non-NTE5 master sockets?

[re: caffn8me] [link to this post]

Sorry for butting in here, I won't be and never intend to use extensions on my line... as it stands the line is going to be come data only anyway,

this due to the line receive nuisance calls and I plan to moved the line onto an SOGEA service when the current deal ends and SOGEA becomes public, so chances are I might just buy an RJ11 socket instead

So a standard NTE5 faceplate won't pass DSL signals? There's really nothing in a standard (rather than filtered) faceplate. It's effectively just a plug, some IDC connectors (for extensions) and a socket. I assume that there was no extension connected to the faceplate which might have screwed up the ADSL signal.

As far as the master is concerned, then it is an OR issue in that it's the official demarcation between domestic and OR cabling. It could cause issues if there's a problem. If you could find a proper (BT branded) double master socket off of eBay then that might disguise it.

I believe the issue is actually the Interstitial plate that was installed for Fibre.... or maybe a coincidence and there a faulty connection on the mast itself...

I'm sure at this moment what to do as I don't want the interstitial plate as it sit out too far pushing a sideboard out further and I also want all the sockets behind the side board to match...

this is a brand new apartment after all and I think its a shame to have horrible pointy sockets looking out of place on the wall, however saying that I cannot find the socket that was originally installed by Developers and now starting to think the Openreach engineer may have taken it with him...

However I'm not going to start shouting about that as I've no proof, though I will be inquiring with my neighbours as too the whereabouts of there sockets.

That's easy enough. Just remove the Interstitial plate and use the standard faceplate (or get one off the Internet). If you aren't using the phone, you don't even need a micro-filter. The sort of standard lead used to connect a phone will do the job (BT phone plug to RJ11).

Doesn't solve the second line issue of course.

Were they normal sockets or those weird modular things some developers fit that are a PITA?

The indispensable man or woman passes from the scene, and what happens next is more or less the same thing as was happening before.

Yes I'm aware this is an option, however still doesn't solve my issue with ugly socket and Openreach didn't leave the screws to attach the front plate back to the socket so is also not an option

I'm considering buying a modular socket though, however this will be MK Electric one which don't look cheap and [censored] like some other modules

I just brought a used 'BT marked' twin socket off eBay, will see how I get on with it when it arrives.

Don't! There are better quality modules especially the ones from Krone - now part of TE www.te.com/bns and they are often cheaper. You can use an MK modular face plate and install whichever you wish.
