Re: BT Adsl faceplate / extensions issue

Hey sorry. I have photos now.

I'm starting to wonder if this is a master socket that has been moved as the cable from this socket goes to what I thought was an extension but appears to possibly be where the main point coming in is. There is no pole outside I believe the cables are underground?

Thanks

And here is that other 'extension' as mentioned directly above this post. It's in the same room photos:

I'm wondering what all the wires are for :/

Ye Gods!

I shall wait for more expert opinion than myself on those two sets of pics. Just a tiny question - am I right in thinking the set in the first post is duplicated within the picture page?

I think you are right about things having been moved, and I think there is at least one more extension somewhere. Maybe not in use, possibly even behind furniture? If I'm right we could do with tracing that. It may be working for phone when the master faceplate is off, and that could be bad news.

(Edit, to remove the k that auto-correct had inserted into pics).

If you just put the gel-crimp socket back together, leaving the master in bits, does a phone work in the gel-crimp one?

Hey.

Yes there is what I now believe to be the main entry point and the 'master' socket is in the same room ( lounge) and there are two further extensions upstairs in different room.

Right, so that sort of faceplate filter is a snip to remove ..

Completely withdraw the two long screws you undid to remove the faceplate.

You can now slide the NTE frontplate out of the faceplate filter.

The faceplate can now be reattached to the NTE and you'll have a DSL signal on all extensions.

(p.s. The signal would have been better as was, but you seem not so concerned by this)

Ye Gods!

Nutting' to be afeared of there Bob.

At a guess the wire coming out of the bottom of the socket goes to the socket where the faceplate is ... and has then been 'backended' to return the dial tone to the other extensions.

I'd even hazard a guess that the pictured extension was previously the original master socket ...... the dial tone is crimped through from the feed to the blue/orange of the four wire. The green brown is on to the pair feeding the other extensions.

It would be simplicity itself to shift the NTE to there ..... but that ain't allowed.

I think I was mis-viewing the first picture. I saw it as the IDC connectors on the VDSL2 filter, but it isn't, is it! It's the back of the NTE5 itself.

As a result I go quite confused, hence the brain fade about testing the non-socket! Similarly I also wondered if there could be star wiring to the other two extensions, but with your analysis I can see there isn't.

I think "I shall wait for more expert opinion than myself on those two sets of pics" is the best thing I said in the post.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for all your input. I removed the filtered faceplate and all works well..only a slight drop in sync speed 8.049 to 7.328.

Can't wait for fibre - unsure if that'll help with speed but we'll see, roll on september 30th smile
