So Brightsparks came today and within 2 minutes confirmed not a problem in the house and a BT OR Engineer will investigate within 48/72 hours frown

Powerline plugs ,mmm this could be the source of interference also, but may as well wait and see what if anything the BT or bod finds

Powerline plugs hmm a possibility, I wasnt there but hopefully he switched off/unplugged from the home network, he didnt use home pc so must have plugged his own laptop/diagnostic kit direct to router ? waiting game now.

On the upside my new plusnet connection is 3% faster down, 11% faster up and pings dropped from 11/12 to 7 smile

You would possibly not be surprised to hear that it is quite common for the OR bod to arrive and find the issue IS in the property.

Good luck.

Worth noting homeplugs / powerplugs cause my fibre optic connection with BT, which has a noise margin of 14db (ie can tolerate a lot of interference), synced at full 55Mbps to drop out at least once a day. Turning them off resolves this.

There is an overlap of the frequencies used by homeplugs and VDSL2+

With wireless AC there is really no excuse to be using powerline, unless there is absolutely no wireless coverage in a part of a property. In this case, get a repeater not a homeplug IMO.

Thanks.

The homeplugs feed two smart tvs, which do have wireless so I'll try and see if the signal is strong at the tellys

And the outcome is I expected, a problem with the line card in the cabinet , this has been fixed/exchanged or whatever and we now have the following

DSL synchronization status:Up
Connection status:Showtime
Upstream line rate (kbit/s):1999
Downstream line rate (kbit/s):39997
Maximum upstream rate (kbit/s):24251
Maximum downstream rate (kbit/s):95080
Upstream noise safety coefficient (dB):31.1
Downstream noise safety coefficient (dB):17.6
Upstream interleave depth:1
Downstream interleave depth:1
Line standard:VDSL2
Upstream line attenuation (dB):0.9
Downstream line attenuation (dB):3
Upstream output power (dBm):-9.5
Downstream output power (dBm):13.3
Channel type:Fast
DSL up-time:0 days 8 hours 54 minutes 29 seconds

On ookla Ping is now 9ms , downstream 37.67 and upstream 1.95 so all good.
